Echinocactus horizonthalonius
Echinocactus horizonthalonius is a species which covers a large habitat range from the Big Bend National Park in Texas almost as far south as Mexico City. The illustration shows one of the magnificently spined northerly forms from the Big Bend Area. This species is not the easiest of cultivation, at least in Europe, requiring the maximum amount of sun and care with watering as it can easily rot. Plants do not need to be large to flower starting at about 2 inches in diameter. Because of the difficulties of cultivation we use a clay pot and a mineral based compost for this
species.
