Austrocephalocereus lehmannianus (Werd.) Backbg.
A species from Brazil about which there has been much confusion. Both this and the
species now known as Coleocephalocereus goebelianus were both originally
described as Cephalocereus purpureus by different botanists (Vaupel and Werdermann).
The species illustrated here has been transferred to various genera over the years and does
not fit very well with the type species of Austrocephalocereus which is (or was) A.dybowskii.
A.dybowskii has been moved by some botanists to a new genus Espostoopsis.
I have only seedling plants, none large enough to flower. The slide illustrated above was sent to
me some fifty years ago by Brian Chudleigh of New Zealand and shows his plant in full flower. |
