On the cover: This impressive Pilosocereus polygonus was captured in habitat just north of the town of Gonaïves in northwest Haiti by Paul Hoxey. The plant was estimated to be 4-5m tall. The area has limestone soils with a thorny scrub. Apart from Pilosocereus, some imposing specimens of Consolea moniliformis were present (these are just visible in the background) and a few other cacti including: Stenocereus fimbriatus, Harrisia divaricata, Opuntia dillenii and Cylindropuntia caribaea.
