Cover illustration: One of the most interesting plants of Soqotra - a Red Sea island belonging to Yemen - is Dortenia gigas, a caudiciform member of the fig family. Unlike other giant succulent trees of the islands (Adenium socatranum and Dendrosicyos socotranum), it is found only at higher altitudes, where it grows on the sheer faces of cliffs. The specimen pictured is some 2.5 meters high and was photographed by Bruno Miles of Germany.
