Cover. Piaranthus punctatus is a South African native first described by Francis Masson in 1796 but not rediscovered in habitat until 1930. It is relatively easily grown, and, while its flowers are small compared to those of other stapeliads, they make up for it in their profusion, as seen in this photo by Andreas Laras of Athens, Greece. His plant was Abbey Garden GCC 1880, originally from east of Loriesfontein, Namaqualand. While taking this photo he had to hold his camera with one hand while using the other to shoo away flies attracted by the odoriferous flowers!
